Jack's Comments:
This is everything you need to rebuild your 1970 BOSS 302 (D0OE-D casting) water pump. These bearings are made with an outside diameter slightly oversized to achieve a tight press fit. You will need a press and the right press accessories to install the seal without damaging it. No instructions included. You get two gaskets, one for the back plate and one back-plate to engine gasket.
Tip: Measure your hub and impeller locations before removing.
Tip: Make sure the seal does not make contact with the impeller when installed. (see Q/A's below for more information)
Check out this YouTube video that shows a tractor water pump being rebuilt with the same type of bearing and seal.
Other parts you may need to rebuild your pump:
-Heater hose water pump tubes
-Boss 302 impeller
-Service standard stamped steel impeller
Questions:
Q: I don't have the correct BOSS 302 water pump impeller for my pump. Will this kit work with a standard stamped steel water pump impeller?
A: Yes, but make sure the impeller hub doesn't make contact with the seal. You can purchase a water pump impeller that works with this seal from us that will not need any modifications.
Q: What sealants do you recommend?
A: Many manufactures have sealants that will work. We use the following sealers when we rebuild pumps. Permatex Red Threadlocker 27140 (bearing > housing), Permatex Form-a-Gasket #80008 (water pump seal outer ring to pump housing), Gasgacinch Gasket Sealer 440-B (backing plate, pump > block gaskets, and heater hose tubes)
